We recently had the privilege of being visited by a team of high school students who came all the way from America to serve our Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres.

The Wesleyan School, based in Atlanta Georgia, sends a team to South Africa every second year on a mission trip. Two of their days involve running a fun-filled and interactive programme with the children at Philile Diepsloot and Hillbrow.

“Pure joy” is the only way to describe the expressions on the children’s faces as they excitedly participated in the various activities. From learning new songs to a round of colourful and competitive physical games and arts and crafts, the children and staff received a fresh injection of well-rounded learning.

It couldn’t be missed that every component essential to the early development of a child was present. Love, fun and physical and verbal stimulation were there in abundance, not to mention the emotional and social connections that were established in such a brief time.

The staff and children at Philile will remember the day the Wesleyans came with fond memories and hearts full of joy.
